5 Tips for Healthy Quarantine Munchies
By Leighana Martindale
We’ve all been there, you know the feeling when you’re nice and baked then suddenly… BAMM! The munchies hit. It’s easy to find ourselves giving in to the munchies and our cravings, but when you add the boredom of being stuck at home for over a month in self-isolation, it can be especially tempting to dive into that big bowl of junk food!
So what can you do to help cure the boredom/stoned munchies?
We created a list of tips, tricks and resources on how to eat healthier foods and help curb the desires when dealing with the munchies.
1. Prepare food before you get baked
I know this can be difficult sometimes, believe me, I get it. But trust me when I say, you will not regret this one! When you have a plate or bowl full of food waiting there for you when you get done enjoying your weed, you will be so damn happy! Plus it can help curb your craving for unhealthy stuff.
Don’t believe us? Check out what Ilana Glazer had to say from her interview with Bon Appetit.
“Yeah. Honestly. I’ll prepare something beforehand and then get high and then I have this thing available for me. Also, a warm drink in the Fall and Winter. Like tea. It’s just lovely.”

2. Have healthy snacks on hand
Often times, we just want something to munch on, and with practice, we can train ourselves to not only eat healthily but to enjoy it!
Having little healthy snacks on hand can really help reduce munching on fatty and high salt foods. Things such as fruit, trail mix, and dark chocolate are all great options, I especially like to keep dark chocolate covered raisins and nuts around for when my sweet tooth rears its head.
During Covid-19 it can be difficult for some of us to go to the store, a great resource I use for getting snacks and dry or canned foods is Thrive Market.
3. Don’t grocery shop while high [that includes online grocery shopping too!]
This is an absolute must! It may seem like a good idea to shop high, but the odds are you will regret the items you choose when you feel lethargic, your stomach hurts and your skin is breaking out.
4. Use Pinterest for Recipes
When you are having a hard time deciding what to eat or make, use Pinterest! The amount of delicious vegan and raw dessert recipes they have on that site is infinite. It’s a great resource for learning new cooking methods and try new foods.

5. Try meal prepping for your munchies
Plan ahead for the week! Come up with some healthy options that you really enjoy! Maybe dip some fruit in dark chocolate and freeze it. Or make breakfast egg muffins. Having home-made, ready to heat food on hand is key to staying healthy. Especially if you’re like me and like to eat out for a “quick-fix” because you don’t want to cook [even in quarantine].
