Review: PuffCo Peak

Let me start by saying that I am so excited about this product. Everything about it is beautiful and thoughtful, even the packaging feels like I just treated myself to the newest Apple device. The attention to detail in design of both the item and the packaging is worth noting. Even the instruction booklet offered a positive experience... and I usually hate reading the instructions. Let's get into the new PuffCo Peak "The first ever smart rig".

The point with this rig is to provide a faster, cleaner, more efficient concentrates experience. The company website touts the everyman aspect of this rig by claiming that "Beginner or expert, small or big loads, flavor or big clouds, no matter how you like to consume there is a perfect setting for you." I was attracted to its inherent cool factor, being a portable and small device with no need for a blow torch. I like techy products and I like weed so when the two come together I'm generally pretty excited.

My PuffCo Peak Experience

Charging the device was odd in the sense that the white light would briefly flash ... then nothing. Was it charging? Was it ready? I had no idea. I left it plugged in all day and hoped for the best

When the time comes to test this baby out - I am jazzed about it. I follow the instructions and assemble the rig according to the leaflet included. I put some tasty King Tut extract from Mazui in the ceramic bowl, place the carb cap on top and select my heat setting: Green aka medium. Then I double click to initiate heat up and sit back to wait the 20 seconds the leaflet says it will take. The device is supposed to vibrate and flash when its ready but nothing happens. Disappointed, I try again, going through the entire process incase I missed a step last time. I count along; 1 hippopotamus, 2 hippopotamus, 3 hippopotamus... I get to 20 hippopotamuses and still nothing. The PuffCo Peaks sits silent and cold reminding me of shitty boyfriends who say they'll come be your plus one at your aunt's party but then never show up.. Am I projecting here? Anyway. I start all over again.

This time, when I double click to initiate heat up it briefly flashes through each of the colours then goes dark. Then stays dark. I reread the instructions manual and discover that multi coloured flashes indicate a poor connection between atomizer and base. There are no suggestions offered on how to fix this so I disassemble and reassemble the device, hoping to fix the issue. This time the light flashes white a couple times, I resist the urge to touch and see if anything is hot, I wait 20 seconds. Still nothing. "One more time" I tell myself as I try again... And third time was a charm because it worked!

It worked beautifully and quickly and has continued to work ever since. I don't know what I was doing wrong before but its all good now and I've gotten excited about this thing again, so here's a list of things I loved:

1) The size

The PuffCo Peak is really compact at only 7" tall and it's sleek and non-obtrusive, it's not in the way at all. I like that its not ugly to look at but it also wasn't built to be a centre piece, its just the right size that it feels easy to deal with and transport ad I'm not afraid of knocking it over accidentally.

2) The Protective case

I love that it came wrapped in a thick layer of protective Styrofoam (I'm not 100% sure what this stuff is, I even tried to look it up) that is ideal for travelling with! I really liked that feature. The case is sleek and small, no bigger than it needs to be, it doesn't have a bulky handle and looks as though I could just fit it in my bigger bags.

3) The Travel Pack

An optional accessory that I came across on the website when I was looking for details on the protective case is the travel pack for $19.95. It features a hilarious little "backpack" feature for the glass neck that looks so comically like a backpack, I was charmed. It also comes with a silicone cap, a carb cap tether and an atomizer cover "to bring the whole look together." Love it.

4) Sesh Mode

For those times you have company. When you enter sesh mode the device will stay heated for an additional 15 seconds so everyone gets a hit. How thoughtful.

5) NO BLOWTORCH

I don't know if you picked up on it earlier but I'm both clumsy and not a fan of reading instructions properly. I've long been convinced that I would be a big enough idiot to blow my eyebrows off with butane so the fact that I don't need a blow torch (let's be honest, it's the worst part of dabs) is magical. I love pressing buttons and getting instant results so this has completely changed my whole approach to dabs. I can't possibly go back to my old rigs, I love this one far too much now.

If you want to have your regular rigs completely destroyed click here to check out The Peak for yourself.
