6 Household Products That Didn’t Need to Be Infused With CBD

By Ashley Keenan

Want to add a new spin to an old product? Just put some CBD in it!

Cannabidiol, popularly known as CBD, has gone from trendy to tiresome this past year saturating the market and media. While CBD undoubtedly has therapeutic benefits and infinite possibilities, that doesn’t mean it is needed or helpful in every product imaginable. This cannabinoid must have one hell of a PR and marketing team.

Maybe they work, maybe they don’t; either way, these 6 CBD products made us ponder their effectiveness (possibly with a little side-eye).

Toothpaste

Natural toothpaste is debated amongst dentists, it offers less chemical components than traditional toothpaste. Unfortunately, even if the ingredients are natural, it doesn’t mean that they are safe for teeth. Dentists caution against using abrasive or acidic ingredients that can wear down natural tooth enamel. CBD has been popping up in natural toothpaste with claims to soothe sensitivity, gum disease and overall benefits to oral health.

Bed Sheets

Ok, so we completely agree that CBD has been shown to improve sleep cycles in clinical studies but we draw the line at infused bed sheets. These CBD linens claim to be infused with hemp-based oils that will last up to 30 wash cycles, though it is unclear how much CBD (if any) is present or how it’s absorbed through the body. There are also pet bed versions of these linens featuring removable CBD sheets to keep Fido chill.

Athletic Wear

Workout clothes that pack an extra punch - the anti-inflammatory, calming, and muscle relieving benefits of CBD? Infused athleisure wear has been seen in a number of styles, including full-body jumpsuits, and claim that innovative technology traps CBD droplets in the clothes. The CBD is then released onto the skin while you exercise, kind of like wearing an infused topical. It sounds like a dream but we have some serious scientific doubts.

Hair Pomade

CBD might be helpful for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, it could even improve scalp health and hair growth but more studies are still needed at this point. The idea of CBD in a pomade or other hair product doesn’t feel like that much of a stretch, though just applying CBD oil as a scalp treatment would likely be more effective for therapeutic benefits.

Hand Sanitizer

Superbugs beware, CBD just might be the key to solving the issue of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the future. Slow down infused hand sanitizer, this discovery is in the very beginning stages. At this time there is absolutely no proof that tossing 25mg of CBD into a hand sanitizer is going to kill anything but your bank account. Also, CBD hand sanitizers often have other ingredients like alcohol to be able to disinfect which seriously dry out the skin.

Pillows

Can a CBD oil-infused pillow help you get a restful night’s sleep? There are people who swear by the benefits of using essential oils like lavender to combat trouble sleeping. Memory foam pillows with CBD oil are touted as a cure for insomnia, though there is little information on dosing, plant origin, or bioavailability in the product itself.
