What is A Weed Detox?

A detox or a tolerance break is an exercise in abstinence designed to reboot the body's reactions to cannabis... And in some cases a detox is necessary because of an upcoming drug test or new job. A detox can last anywhere from a couple of days to several weeks and the experience is unique to everyone.

Sometimes heavier or medical users build up a bit of a tolerance for cannabis and the effects are not as pronounced.  For this reason, some people opt to abstain for a period of time to "reset" and give themselves the chance to enjoy the full potency of  their weed again. A couple of days should be enough for many people to notice a difference but in some cases just switching up your routine is going to create a change too. For example, if you typically smoke in the morning with your coffee, try skipping the AM sesh and instead potentially enjoy stronger effects in the afternoon or evening.

What to expect when undergoing a detox

Vivid dreams are a fun side effect of detoxing. I remember being on a mandatory detox while travelling through some not-so-friendly-to-cannabis countries and oh my gosh... The dreams I had! Not only did I remember them when I woke up but I still had the sensation of having lived through them. They were so real and thats probably because weed consumption makes you spend more time in deep sleep and less time in the REM cycle - the REM cycle is where the dreams take place so it stands to reason that when you abstain and begin spending more time in REM you'll remember your dreams!

Additionally you may feel a bit sluggish for the first few days, you may have a decreased appetite, headaches and a case of cranky-pants. Don't worry, this is normal and while its not exactly pleasant it's nothing to worry about either, you'll balance out in a few days.

simple steps to Detox Success

THC is stored in fat cells so the more of those you have, the longer the THC will stay in your system. Getting some exercise will help burn off fat cells and the THC with it. Plus, exercise releases endorphins which will help counter act any moodiness you might be experiencing.

Bloating and slowed metabolism will both slow the detox process down so be sure to eat a healthy diet of lean meats, leafy greens, loads of water and avoid foods that are high in sugar, salt or fat.

To completely flush the system of THC be sure to abstain for at least 30 days.
